Luis is a highly energetic business and community leader with a strong passion for personal and professional development. He has leveraged his experience working in 7 Fortune 500 companies to write, speak, and conduct training on Human Centered Leadership and Emotional Intelligence, sharing perspectives and techniques with thousands of people around the world. He trains professionals and executives to lead in a more people-oriented and human way. He has published articles sharing his perspectives on Human Centered Leadership and Emotional Intelligence in multiple publications, including Minnesota Business Magazine and Latinas in Business, that have been used as reference by various organizations for discussions around implementing change in the workplace to improve the environment and the culture. Luis is a strong ambassador for people, education and humanity. He visits schools, colleges, and universities around the world to engage in conversations with faculty, administrative staff and students about new ideas about Leadership, teamwork and the workplace.
Luis participates in collaborative economic development initiatives and has been actively engaged in discussions on Shared Prosperity with multiple corporations and non-profit organizations. Luis' passion for people, humanity, Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion and for improving the socioeconomic conditions and opportunities for diverse professionals has taken him to join leadership roles in Diversity Networks at multiple global companies, including Ecolab, General Mills, Land O'Lakes, and GE. Luis has been included in the "Top 100 Under 50 Executives and Emerging Leaders" by Diversity MBA Magazine and named a "Top National Champion for Diversity" by DiversityBusinessMagazine. The Minneapolis / St Paul Business Journal named him among its "40 Under 40", Minnesota Business Magazine included him in its "(Real) Power 50" and the MSP Chapter of Prospanica (formerly NSHMBA) recognized him as its "Member of the Year“, due to his initiatives to support minority professionals.
Luis' efforts have translated into very positive outcomes, including the creation of The Twin Cities Business Peer Network, a strong professional network of over 2,000 members, which helps students and professionals to make new connections for professional and personal development, career, and business opportunities. Due to his commitment to help students do better in school and get jobs, he was selected as "International MBA Student of the Year" and alsoreceived the University of Minnesota’s “President's Award to Leadership and Service". In the 12-year period after business school, Luis received employment offers from 6 Fortune 250 Companies. Luis believes that to be a great leader one needs to be a good person, a main reason why he trains leaders to be more human.
Luis has an MBA in Marketing and Strategy from the Carlson School of Management and is a Public Policy Fellow at the Center for the Study of Politics and Governance at the Humphrey School of Public Affairs. Minnesota State Government gave him a “Distinguished Service Award” due to his contributions in race relations, justice, community service, education, and civil and human rights. Luis works with US Competitiveness and Shared Prosperity initiatives as an active member of the Young American Leaders Program (YALP) at Harvard Business School.
